My good friend, Egyptian-American, Film Journalist and Filmmaker, Mira Victor took us to the 11th Asian World Film Festival in Culver City in November 2025. On the topic of legacy, we discussed Michael Jai White who received the Bruce Lee award. The festival also awarded Lucy Liu, Lee Byung-hun, among others.
Hey Mira. How are you?
How are you, Rogee? I’m very proud of what you’re doing and thank you so much for inviting me to your beautiful magazine.
I’m gonna go straight to Michael Jai White. You were there that day when he received the Bruce Lee Award. What was it like?
He was very happy and very humble. I found out later that he is the first non-Asian to receive this award. Bruce Lee is a big name and Michael Jai White is a big name, so this award is a big deal. Meeting with him, he was really nice. He was very proud of himself to receive the award. He was welcoming and giving time to everyone as they requested to take pictures with him.
Nice. I love this picture of you and Michael Jai White. The Festival was 11 days and they gave out other awards. One of my favorite actresses, Lucy Liu, also received an award. Where you there?
She’s a beautiful lady and she deserved that award. I wasn’t there that day because I was filming my show “ASK MIRA,” which airs globally on CSAT TV. Congratulations to Lucy Liu on receiving that prestigious AWFF award.
Yeah. Lucy Liu won the Snow Leopard Award for Outstanding Cinematic Achievement. Lee Byung-hun also won an award.
Yeah. Such a nice guy. Lee was very excited to receive the award. I watched his movie. Also, I want to say thank you to my dear friend and festival director, Georges Chamchoum.
I met Georges Chamchoum. Great man. So Mira, I had asked you to review one of the movies for us. Have you decided?
Yes. I will review the “LOVE AND KARMA” movie...
It was one of those magical nights at the Asian World Film Festival in November 2025, and the film that stayed with me was LOVE & KARMA, a Philippine movie based on a true story.
The story opens with a woman in her late forties, recently divorced, raising a teenage daughter with whom she has little emotional connection. The struggle is immediate and real. Yet the quiet strength and presence of the lead actress keeps the audience fully engaged.
Encouraged by her friends, she travels to the Philippines. There, she unexpectedly reunites with her first crush. Their connection feels natural and sincere. He is deeply religious, grounded, and disciplined — a rare kind of man. From that moment, love unfolds in a way that is both gentle and powerful. I won’t spoil the ending for you, but the journey in this movie, LOVE & KARMA, leaves clear lessons:
Age does not limit love or opportunity. Growth begins the moment when curiosity replaces fear.
Courage lives outside the comfort zone — that’s where life’s wonders happen.
True men still exist. Some treasures require patience and faith to uncover.
Every woman carries an inner power; when released, she becomes unstoppable.
Above all, LOVE & KARMA reminds us that love itself can create miracles.
